Description The thesis has to summarize the current situation regarding HRM in the United Kingdom. It is a broad overview from the literature which summarises the business context, typical approaches to HRM and current challenges, and the role of the HR department inside organisations. Examples of the questions to be addressed include: What is the contextual history of the country? How wealthy is the country? What changes have been or are currently taking place in the economy? What type of national culture dominates the country? How much employment legislation is there? How strong are the trade unions? What are the critical future HRM challenges? How tight is the labour market? What is the level of education of employees? What are employee attitudes to work (psychological contract - motivation)? How willing are employees to change and be innovative? How important is work-life balance? What role does the HR department play in organisations? Is HR purely administrative or does it also have a strategic role to play? How influential is HR?
