You will choose a topic of interest and argue for or against it. The final essay should be 1500- 2500 words. Your essay must use at least five sources.
Internet sources must be associated with national or international organizations (personal websites are not permitted; dot.com sites, unless affiliated with a major news outlet, are likewise not permissible). This essay is worth 350 points (300 Content, 50 MLA)
Word count does not include your works cited page – that will be the last page of your essay.

1)Social Security & Retirement Plans
What is the government’s role in providing retirement security for its citizens? Should the Social Security system be continued? Should Social Security be overhauled and allow for citizens to invest part of their contributions in the stock market?

2)Education Reform
Are modern schools really preparing students for the real world? What values are schools supposed to teach? What is wrong and what is right about modern schools?

3)Terrorism
What is the cause of all this domestic and international terrorism? What should be the world response to terrorism? Does the United States have the right to purge the world of any perceived terrorism threat anywhere in the world, at any time?

Should gays be recognized as having the same rights as heterosexuals? Should they be allowed to marry? Should they be allowed to adopt children?

6)The Use of Media in Affecting Change
How does the media affect perceptions? Politics? Does the media perpetuate violence? A decline in morality? Racial disharmony? Sexual inequality? Excess consumerism? What role should media play in values and issues? Should the government regulate the media more strictly?
