Description In an essay of about 750-1000 words, discuss the different ideas of the good and virtuous life as these are set forth in at least four different eras that we have studied, from Anglo-Saxon to the eighteenth century. What qualities are most admired? What are the best and worst things a man can do? (Ideals do vary by gender, and some of the texts we have read from some periods give us information about ideals for women; all give us information about ideals for men.) Discuss both the changes in ideals and any continuities that you find. Support your thesis with specific examples from the texts of different periods, and make clear connections among the ideals, the cultures, and the texts.
