 Description THE COURSEWORK TITLE

Andy wants to give his wife a special anniversary present and so asked a jeweller to provide a quotation for making up a gold and sapphire ring to an original design.

At the end of August the jeweller replied that the cost to make the ring in this design would be £750 and that the ring would take 4 weeks to manufacture. Because his anniversary was still some months away, Andy did not reply, instructing the jeweller to go ahead with the work at that price, until mid-October.

The jeweller has now been in touch with Andy and has told him that if we wants the ring, the price will now be £900 because the price of gold has gone up.

Andy thinks that the jeweller must do the work at the original price.

With full reference to relevant authority, advise Andy as to whether there is a concluded contract between him and the jeweller for the manufacture and supply of the ring - and if so, at what price?

Other comments: Identify the area of law the case study deals with; Identify the specific legal issues/points of law which are central to the question set; Write an essay discussing fully these specific issues/point of law - making full use of relevant authority - ie you must refer to case law in your answer! remember to focus your discussion on the key points of law which are most relevant - go for depth rather than breadth in your disucssion of the relevant law - it should not be an 'everything I know about contract' approach; Complete your essay by analysing the facts of the question and distinguish between information which is legally relevant and that which is legally irrelevant. What is the legal significance - if any - of each piece of factual information given? Consider the rights and obligations of each party and apply the relevant law to reach a reasoned conclusion. Support your conclusion by reference to relevant case law
