 Description
Write a four-para conciliatory argument in which you act as arbitor, mediator, or third party in a dispute between a supporter of capital punishment, and one who is adamently opposed to the practice. Be reminded that you are a conflict resolutionist, and you must not insert yourself into the argument.
Your aim is to locate common ground between the two parties, or to arrive at a solution which privileges both arguers; in other words, you will craft a win-win solution to the controversy of the death penalty. Be reminded that neither of the competing parties will leave the arbitration table completely happy, but each will have gained some point

Structural requirements: PARA I: Carefully review the parameters of the issue, clearly setting forth, in an objective tone, why the issue is a contentious one about which people disagree. Then, in the same para, select ONE point of view, and in generous and honest terms, explain that position, without intruding your own personal opinions and point of view. PARA II: Using the position which you explained in the second part of para I, show in which contexts and under which circumstances, that argument may be valid. Your aim is to locate something reasonable in this position, and to be cognizant that you may be able to identify with only one claim or argument. PARA III: Now, clearly set forth the argument for the other position, and identify in which contexts and under which circumstances this position may be valid. PARA IV: This para is key to the success of your Rogerian Argument, in that it is in this para that you locate common ground, or find a viable win-win solution to the problem which the two parties confront.
