Description DANGERS OF DRUG ABUSE AMONG YOUTHS.

A drug becomes abused when it is used for the wrong purpose or when it is administered in the wrong dose. The indiscriminate and illicit use of these drugs like cocaine often result in death, maladjustment, sickness and aid other acts of indiscipline such as stealing, rape killing etc.

These dangers are real for our young ones who use these drugs. They often addicted to them and cannot help themselves. Some of these chemical substances such as cocaine is highly addictive. These drugs, which are mind benders, put people in states where they have no control over their actions. They put ideas into the heads of users who find themselves doing things they otherwise will not do.

The big question then is, “What causes drug abuse among youths? Put differently, why do our young ones use drugs? How do they begin to use drugs?

Statistics show that peer group influence is the major cause of drug abuse among youths. It often begins with a harmless curiosity about what the users gain from it to “how does it make one feel?” Then, “Let me try”; then, “it feels good” and finally to “I can’t help myself. I need it.

Another prominent cause of drug abuse among youths is poor role model. Youths often look up to adults. They learn from the adults by imitating them first, then they begin to emulate them.

Monitoring of children should be stepped up by the parents. Parents should, as much as possible, be close to their children. With this, they will notice when their children start behaving abnormally.
Adults on the other hand must, at all times, be conscious of the things they say and do before the young ones.

With all these in place, drug abuse among youths will at least be curtailed.
